The Banda Jove
The Banda Jove is the beginners’ ensemble of the Societat Unió Musical Santa Cecília de Barx: the natural bridge between lessons at the Music School and the music band.
It was formed in 1996, during Antonio Donet’s presidency and at the suggestion of Julio Donet, the saxophone teacher. It was presented to the public in November that year under Javier Donet, who had taught solfège and clarinet at the school since 1989 and who, a few weeks later in January 1997, also took over the senior band.
What it is for
- Putting into practice as an ensemble what is learnt in individual and music theory lessons.
- Learning to play as a group: listening, tuning, following the conductor and respecting each instrument’s role.
- Building the repertoire and stamina needed to join the senior band.
- Giving students their first public performances in a familiar setting.
