Societat Unió Musical Santa Cecília de Barx

The Societat Unió Musical Santa Cecília de Barx is a non-profit association founded on 19 September 1978, on the initiative of the musicians and a good part of the village following the band’s trip to Toulon that same year. Its first president was Juan Bautista Montagut.

The society brings together and supports three projects that feed into one another:

  • The music band, our main ensemble.
  • The Banda Jove (youth band), created in 1996 as a step towards the senior band.
  • The Music School, the training ground for future musicians.

Governance

The society is governed by its members’ assembly and by a Board of Directors elected from among them. Ana Bixquert Pallas is the current president. Since 2001, when Inmaculada Donet was elected, the presidency has been held continuously by women of the association. The full composition of the governing body is listed on the Board of Directors page.

Venues and municipal support

Thanks to a collaboration agreement with Barx Town Council, the society carries out its activities — meetings, assemblies, lessons, rehearsals and concerts — at the Casa de Cultura and the Algeval Theatre.

How it is funded

The association is funded by its members’ fees, the agreement with Barx Town Council and grants from the Generalitat Valenciana and the Diputació de València for musical and educational activity.

If you would like to join, the Members page sets out the benefits and the application form. And the Band history tells the story of these four decades and more.
